seven day strike while they consider a contract deal. teachers walked out last week over issues such as benefits and evaluation procedures. that strike with 350,000 students idled just days after returning from their summer break. a dismal forecast, the obesity problem is not going to get better. >> this is bad news, researchers used hard evidence, height and weight measurements, to come up with an accurate prediction about the weight of our nation and the numbers are shocking. the new study suggests that half the people in 39 states will be obese by 2030. today about 36 percent of americans are obese. the projection for this date in 23 is 47%. the organization's and the

>> the bay area will play a big role in endeavour's final flight. endeavor will be piggybacking on top of a modified 747 to its new home in l.a.. along the way it will fly over the state capitol in sacramento and near the golden gate bridge before flying over nasa. you'll also be able to see it at the bay area discovery museum and the monterey bay aquarium. >> nasa ames research center gave us a look into space from a bay area deal. the center showed off one of its five simulators that astronauts use before going into

space. we're told that the simulators are as close as it can get to the real deal. a m friday of the shuttle will make its final flight over ames. the event is free and gates will open at 6:00 a.m. that morning. endeavor will fly to its permanent home in l.a.. >> next month there will be a parade down city streets. trees need to be cut down and cables need to be adjusted to make sure there's enough room for the shuttle to go by. we put all the details about the journey on our website cbs has stepped up on. >> the city is wrapping up in nearly a decade strong infrastructure upgrade and if

the job is done right you will never notice. crews broke ground on a retrofit of the reservoir. workers will lay out 37,000 t of cement to ensure the 60 year- old facility will hold up in an earthquake. the mayor says the hurricane katrina was a powerful reminder of why there is no time to waste. >> we're doing it the right way here in san francisco. the responsible thing is to invest and make sure there seismically safe. >> the reservoir holds 15% of the city's drinking water >> changes are coming on the golden gate bridge to help keep the traffic moving. >> before we got in the car my dad would say does anyone have any quarters for the poll?

things have changed over the years and the toll is now $6 on the golden gate bridge and also, the way they collect the toll is about to change. beginning in february of next year the bridge directors have decided to go to an electronic toll collecting system. the district spokeswoman says they're going to use available technology. >> the collectors go away, there is no stopping and everyone will keep moving and they will see an improvement in the evening commute and on the friday saturday sunday commute into san francisco. we will see improvement in the congestion level. >> so how will they do this? there are three methods for collecting your poll electronically. the first is fast track and the second would be a system they will develop that takes a photograph of her license plate

as you go through the bridge which would give you 48 hours to pay. the third way is to go into a convenience store and buy a ticket where your license plate number would be encoded on that and you pay in advance. they hope to save about $19 million over 10 years of doing this but that is only part of it. the real reason is to lighten up on some of the traffic. this all gets started coming up in february. >> pool is going hollywood this week. a movie starring vince vaughn and owen wilson is being shot in mt. view. this photograph taken of the two of them on the google campus. the movie called the internship

the first pitch temperature only 59 degrees. the fog burned off about one hour earlier than yesterday. everybody is sunny, even at the coast right now. the onshore flow is still strong. low pressure off the oregon coast line but as long as it stays where it is, it will keep us relatively chilly. you get sunshine but you also be anywhere from 5-10 degrees cooler than normal. we will stay chile through thursday but milder weather moves in for friday and saturday as the onshore flow weekend. san jose is only 72. los '70s for sunnyvale, cupertino, mountain view.

preying on cultural superstitions >> they will approach them and say maybe there is a ghost with you >> he joined the dea and the san francisco police have one of three scheduled community meetings aimed at educating the elderly chinese community about eight targeted scam. attendees watched a re- enactment of a crime that begins when female, artists convicts, convinces elderly victims that they're being followed by spirits. the scam has been hand over all their valuables for a blessing. the d.a. confiscated $850,000 worth of valuables from six suspects trying to leave the country. >> we'd know it occurs in china and there are cases in boston, new york, chicago, l.a. and san francisco >> with approximately 50 reported victim so far of the da
